Case Study – Cadw Coal House

Soda blast cleaning -Cadw Coal House, Blaenavon Client Details – Cadw Wales Heritage The Challenge

To carry out soda blasting test samples to sensitive historic surfaces to prove the benefit of soda blast systems, in order to remove unwanted paint coatings that has been left on stone surfaces after filming carried out by BBC programme Coal House.

To strip wood to remove paint for repairs and to clean off stone pavements to give grip underfoot on the lean stone, to clean the masonry brick, and to clean off all of the limescale and effervescence from the stone.

APT’s Solution

We discussed the job at length with the client surveyor and carried out test sample areas.

The soda blasting was carried out in conjunction with other project team members. We used both dry and wet soda blast systems (https://aptsodablasting.co.uk) where required to minimise costs.
